NBR readds drive to backup although it was excluded / Disable inventory auto refresh

I use NBR to backup (amongst others) a workstation (Windows) - the workstation has one local drive c:, one iScSI LUN added as remote drive and one remote drive as mounted SMB share. The remote drives are always accessible.

I only want to backup the local drive C:.

For reasons I do not understand NBR keeps readding sometimes the iSCSI remote drive to the backup although I excluded it previously.

Support was very helpful and suggested to reduce or disable auto refresh of the inventory to solve this issue. I disabled auto refresh and so far it works.

However, I would like to understand what is happening and maybe some of you have solved this issue in a different way? Certainly something happens behind the scenes which makes NBR detecting the same remote drive as new?

Are there any drawbacks to disabling auto refresh for inventory, transporters and repos?

Online documentation was not helpful in this regard and your experience would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks, Hannes

Hello, @Hallm!

Regarding your questions:

1. However, I would like to understand what is happening and maybe some of you have solved this issue in a different way?

In this case, we suggest to Exclude Physical Disks from Backup jobs. Please refer to this article for instruction:
https://helpcenter.nakivo.com/User-Guide/Content/Backup/Creating-Physical-Machine-Backup-Jobs/Backup-Job-Wizard-for-Physical-Machines-Destination.htm

2. Certainly something happens behind the scenes which makes NBR detecting the same remote drive as new?

NAKIVO Backup & Replication keeps the information about the discovered infrastructure in its internal database, which is refreshed every 1 hour by default. During the inventory refresh, the product collects all required information about your virtual infrastructure, such as a list of hosts and VMs, power state, and so on.

3. Are there any drawbacks to disabling auto-refresh for inventory, transporters and repos?

Yes, there are.

During the Inventory/Transporter/Repository refresh, the product collects all required information about your virtual infrastructure, such as a list of hosts and VMs, their power state, about all Transporters, about Backup Repositories (such as the amount of free space, number of backups and recovery points).

Only one item Inventory/Transporter/Repository can be refreshed at a time. If you have added multiple items to the inventory or more than one Transporter/Repository, they will remain in the queue until they are able to be refreshed.

Let me know if you have any additional questions.

Many thanks for your reply!

However, sorry if I was unclear, but this is exactly what I did several times and what apparently does NOT fully work:

The remote iSCSI drive was already excluded several times from the backup. The remote drive is persistent, so its UUID should not change (to my knowledge, I admittedly did not check).

Still NBR sometimes detects it as new and adds it automatically to the backup, what I do not want.

@Hallm,

I'm afraid this question is too specific for the forum. Please send us a support bundle so that our Support Team can perform a detailed investigation. If needed, our support specialist will also involve the Development department.

Check how to send the support bundle https://helpcenter.nakivo.com/display/NH/Support+Bundles

Let me know if I can assist you with anything else.
