For university M365 accounts, a key detail to keep in mind alongside your automated retention policies is student account lifecycle management. Once students complete their semester requirements or graduate, their mailboxes and OneDrive data should be archived according to your backup schedule before account deactivation.
On the student end, tracking required course participation manually can be a hassle, so sharing a simple tool like
https://attendcalc.com/kl-attendance-calculator/ helps them calculate their required class attendance percentages and safe absence limits on their own. This keeps administrative inquiries about eligibility or attendance status down to a minimum.
Even if the main immutability period has expired, dependent full backup blocks or active retention chains can keep older points locked in object storage until the entire dependent chain expires. First, verify under Home > Backups > Object Storage that you are right-clicking the specific VM's restore points to use Delete from Disk rather than deleting from the job level. If it still refuses to delete, the cloud provider's S3 Object Lock governance settings or background retention tasks may need a full lifecycle run to release the data blocks.

I'm having an issue when I run a full VM recovery on VMware vSphere 8. The issue is: “An error has occurred while recovering one or more virtual disks of the ‘VM-Name’ backup.”
