    Hi all,

I installed Nakivo in FMCSPC. However, when i want to backup the machine itself by adding it to the inventory, this warning message where physical machine agent cannot be installed on X machine. The machine contains a transporter occured.

    I googled:

    https://helpcenter.nakivo.com/display/KB/Physical+Machine+Agent+Installation+Failed

    Solution

To solve the problem, take the following actions:

    For Windows physical servers

    1. Uninstall the Transporter that has been previously installed on the Windows machine by running the corresponding uninstaller accessed from Programs and Features on the Windows OS.
    2. Add the Windows physical server to the product inventory again.

I have backup my other computers in repositories using the onboard tranporter (FMCSPC).

    (1) Will the other backup files be corrupted if I deleted the onboard transporter to backup the FMCSPC machine itself?

    (2) How do i uninstall the transporter in programs and features? i only saw newly added software Nakivo backup & replication and microsoft visual c++ 2013 redistributable (x64) in the control panel.

Hello, @javely7 Thank you for your question. With Physical inventory, you should make sure the following is met:

    - Physical Machine Requirements (https://helpcenter.nakivo.com/User-Guide/Content/Deployment/System-Requirements/Supported-Platforms.htm#Physical)

    - Networking Requirements (https://helpcenter.nakivo.com/User-Guide/Content/Deployment/System-Requirements/Deployment-Requirements.htm#Networki)

    - Make sure no Nakivo transporter service/application is installed on the physical machine. The Nakivo transporter agent will be installed automatically when adding the physical machine to the Inventory.

Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with, and we will get back to you. We are looking forward to hearing from you.

Right, I think we're on the same page here.  My thought was to use a Nakvio director in AWS to manage local transporters and repositories.  Theoretically, this would mean our Nakivo install would survive a catastrophic (on prem) data center event, and we could restore from an offsite repository without rebuilding Nakivo first.

Thank you for your interest in NAKIVO! Yes, this is an absolutely correct conception. If you need any assistance with the configuration of this layout or some specific details, don't hesitate to get in touch with support directly at support@nakivo.com. Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with, and we will get back to you.

Is it possible to deploy Nakivo into an EC2 instance?  Is there a pre built AMI for a Nakvio director?  ...and if so, can I migrate a local Nakivo install to EC2 by backing up my config and restoring on EC2?

I'd like to see if Nakivo can compete with Amazon's AWS Backup to protect on prem VMWare, utilizing local (on prem) Nakivo transporters and repositories across a VPC... all with a portion of our backups replicated to an S3 bucket (maybe Wasabi) to protect us in the event of a major disaster.

Hello, Matt, thank you for your question. Yes, technically, it is possible to migrate NAKIVO from a local installation to AWS EC2.

There is a pre-built AWS AMI with the NAKIVO director. At the same time, importing to AWS NAKIVO will require minor manual configuration (check IP addresses of Inventory items and transporters, check repositories paths, etc.). If the NAKIVO director is located in AWS, we recommend having additional local transporter (or even a local repository) work with the hypervisor locally.

If you have any issues during the process in the future, such cases should be investigated with the logs, send them using support@nakivo.com email. You can create a new support ticket by sending us a support bundle from the instance where the issue occurs. Thank you for undestanding. We are looking forward to hearing from you.

    Hello everyone,

I'm experiencing a problem with recovering a VM. It always stops at 21,6% and doesn't proceed. I see on my NAS interface and the VMware ESXi (tried versions 6.7 and 7.0) interface that it's starting to transfer data (creates folder) and tries to build a VM. The recovery job stops on its own after a while (23 minutes on my last try) and the VM gets destroyed and the folder disappears. So far I've played around with different options (choosing the vmserver as datastore instead of the NAS, different Recovered VM names, using just the default options) and I've also experienced this exact same phenomenon with a different VM and NAS before.

Has anyone else had this problem and might know how to solve it?

Hello, JoBonJo, there is not enough information for further investigation at the moment.

Please, check if port 902 is opened on the target for the recovery VMware host.

Also, such cases should be investigated with the logs, send them using support@nakivo.com email. You can create a new support ticket by sending us a support bundle from the instance where the issue occurs. Thank you for undestanding.

I suggest you simply download VA, install and try to login as root. You can investigate as much as you want. Once you figure it out post the solution here so everyone would know how to do it.

Pete, please, use the email to contact with the support team. Your issue needs more details. Thank you

Well, I have the same problem and this article doesn't solve anything. It shows what is the nkvuser password. When you want to execute anything in the shell it points out that you need to be root. su - command doesn't work. Login as root doesn't work due to unknown password. Resetting password is only for users not for root. What is the solution than? how to remove storage, how to add new local drive as a repository - everything needs to be done from the command line as root.

    Nakivo version: 10.5.1, Ubuntu 20.04

Hello, Pete. We need more information for the investigation process. Please send an email to our Support team: support@nakivo.com. Thank you

  10. Hello @Ezequiel Kich,

Proprietary change tracking method is not a full backup. When using proprietary change tracking method, an entire VM is read each time. Therefore, it is slower than the use of resilient change tracking (RCT). Nevertheless, only changes are transferred in both cases.

In order to use RCT for change tracking, you need a contemporary Hyper-V version.

Please let us know if there's anything else we can help you with.

  11. Hello @kaoht,

The improvement of the native tape support feature usability is already underway.

The product team is working to ensure that NAKIVO Backup & Replication can display tape cartridge capacity and BO/RP size.

Please let us know if there's anything else we can help you with.

  12. Hi @Loki Rodriguez,

The most affordable monitoring option would be the built-in features and Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP).

Check the information about native monitoring capabilities here https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-vSphere/7.0/com.vmware.vsphere.monitoring.doc/GUID-A8B06BE0-E5FC-435C-B12F-A31618B21E2C.html

As for enabling SNMP on ESXi hosts, you can find a step-by-step guide in this blog post https://www.nakivo.com/blog/a-guide-to-esxi-snmp-configuration-for-esxi-monitoring/

However, if you want complete visibility and control of your environment, try using our VMware Monitoring from NAKIVO. You can monitor key metrics, avoid hardware bottlenecks, analyze performance trends and proactively resolve issues. Try it for free https://www.nakivo.com/it-monitoring/vmware-monitoring/

Let me know if you have any other questions.

  13. Hi, @Garry.web

As you can imagine, the functionality is similar. The choice depends more on your environment. However, you can consider the following aspects:

    • Features
    • Administration
    • Security
    • Support
    • Pricing and editions

We have a blog post on this. It can help you compare both options https://www.nakivo.com/blog/microsoft-365-vs-google-workspace-a-full-comparison/

If I can help you with anything else, please get in touch with me.

  14. Hi, @Hakim!
First, check the Microsoft Secure Score (MSS) dashboard to understand your organization's current security posture. For this, you would need admin access. You can access Secure Score through the quick launch bar in the Microsoft 365 Defender portal.

A score below 30% indicates that your environment is highly vulnerable to threats. The recommended security level is 80%, while a 100% score can be attained when Microsoft 365 Defender is working to its fullest potential with the help of a third-party solution. In addition to a general evaluation of your security posture, you will see the suggested improvements.

What can you do to secure your Microsoft 365 environment?

    • Implement multi-factor authentication.
    • Educate your employees.
    • Disable auto-forwarding for email.
    • Integrate email protection against phishing attacks.
    • Pay more attention to the admin accounts' security.
    • Improve anti-malware protection.
    • Incorporate Basic Mobility and Security to protect your employees' mobile devices.
    • Activate Safe Attachments functionality.
    • Use a backup solution to recover your data when the preventive measures fail.

To read more on the subject, please check our blog post https://www.nakivo.com/blog/top-10-best-practices-to-secure-microsoft-365-for-business-plans/

  15. Hi, @Connor0967!

You can try restarting the ESXi management agents. Most likely, it resolves the issue. Otherwise, you can restart the ESXi host, but you will have to shut down your VMs or migrate them to another host, which might be problematic for a production environment.

So, start by restarting the ESXi management agents. You can find more information on the procedure in our blog post https://www.nakivo.com/blog/how-to-restart-management-agents-on-a-vmware-esxi-host/

Don't hesitate to contact me if you get any questions.

  16. Hi, @Kiya Wilks!

OneDrive isn't intended to be used as a backup solution. It is meant to synchronize files and access them from anywhere. OneDrive has several limitations that don't allow it to be a backup destination. You can check a complete comparison of OneDrive Backup and OneDrive Sync in our blog post https://www.nakivo.com/blog/onedrive-backup-vs-onedrive-sync-myths-and-facts/

If you have any questions after reading, let me know.

  17. Hi, @tommy.cash!

As @mark007 mentioned, you should first analyze your company's needs and then the needs of every employee. You should pay attention to the following aspects:

    • business size
    • storage requirements
    • compliance requirements
    • how advanced should be your security features
    • what is the required collaboration level for your environment

All of these aspects might help you choose the right option. You can check this blog post to find a detailed description of all the Microsoft 365 enterprise plans https://www.nakivo.com/blog/comparing-microsoft-office-365-enterprise-plans-e1-vs-e3-vs-e5/

  18. Hi, @mark007!

There are various ways to do that. If you're an end-user, the best solution for you is to use the Outlook web interface. To configure forwarding, follow these steps:

    • In a web browser, open https://outlook.office.com
    • Tap on the Settings (gear) icon to open Office 365 email settings.
    • At the bottom of the Settings menu, select View all Outlook settings.
    • Click on Mail > Forwarding.
    • Check the Enable forwarding checkbox.
    • Enter your destination email address to forward your emails to.

Note: It is recommended to check the Keep a copy of forwarded messages checkbox. This way, your emails will be saved in your current mailbox. So, if something goes wrong and the destination email address doesn't receive your messages, you won't lose your emails.

    • Click Save.

If you want to use other options (using email client, Office 365 admin center, etc.) for moving your Microsoft Office 365 emails, check this blog post  https://www.nakivo.com/blog/how-to-move-office-365-emails-to-other-email-accounts/
